SD USA sponsors workshop
Sharing Our Acts of Caring: Susila Dharma in Our Daily Lives — A Workshop
by Susila Dharma USA Board of Directors
Date: July 7, 2009
The Board of Directors of SDUSA met this past weekend as part of the SUSA Congress in Greeley, Colorado. We facilitated a workshop at the Congress called “Sharing Our Acts of Caring: Susila Dharma in Our Daily Lives”. Attendees reported examples of their own personal volunteer work and discussed the significance of this work in their lives.
A broad range of activities were reported and the following is a very brief list: The Wilderness Society, Amnesty International, Finca (promoting micro-loans in developing countries), Techno-Serve, FonKoze, Rotary community service, Tassc (work with victims of torture), SERRV International (work promoting fair trade products), etc. People reported that their work in teaching, the health care professions, hospice work, volunteering in soup kitchens and with the homeless, etc., is a big part of their “susila dharma” work. Of course, many people are volunteering with SDUSA to support its projects around the world.
The examples of humanitarian and caring work being done by Subud members just came pouring out, and those sited above are only a small part of what was reported. It seems that many people in Subud are engaged in a very broad range of activities designed to help others. This work is truly bringing the light of the latihan into the world.
