SD USA Fundraising Efforts

Local Centers Respond with Project Fundraising

This Spring, SD USA asked centers to help make up a shortfall of funding for several projects.  Subud Portland and Subud San Luis Valley responded with a variety of fundraisers.  Subud Portland raised about $1400 for Mithra in India and San Luis Valley will raise about $1000 for YUM Children’s Village in Indonesia.  Thank you all!!

Many centers are active Susila Dharma centers.  SD Centers are Subud Centers that demonstrate an ongoing commitment and involvement in SD activities.  For example: Starting a project for their local community; adopting an SD or local project; fundraising or volunteering for charitable organizations, such as SD; sponsoring project and SD awareness with films, talks or presentations.  Susila Dharma USA would like to recognize the current SD Centers:  Portland; Bellingham; San Diego; New York; Boston; and San Luis Valley. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to your Susila Dharma.

One of benefits that SD Centers are reporting is greater member involvement and a growing sense of community.  Focusing on helping others is a great cosmic glue that spreads from within a group and often out to their larger community.  Our outreach team continues to foster the development of more SD centers.  Please feel free to contact Azaria Kent or Marilyn Schirk, co-chairs of our Outreach Team if you’d like some suggestions or support.  Emails can be sent to our main office with ATTN: OUTREACH in the subject line (mainoffice@susiladharmausa.org).

New Board Members and Board Associates

The Susila Dharma board has staggered three year terms for its nine voting members.  (The tenth is for the SUSA chair or his/her designate.)  What this means is that every year, 3 members’ terms end and 3 new members join the Board.  This structure allows the Board to have greater continuity and keep the work flowing.

At our AGM in Greeley, John Schoenthaler of Texas was elected for a 3 year term and Lionnell Covert of Crestone was elected to complete a 1 year vacancy.  Marilyn Schirk and Liza Ramey were reelected for second terms, both 3 year terms.  Melinda Wallis, Office Manager for the National Office, has agreed to be the SUSA designate.

The Board welcomed two individuals to serve as Board Associates: Deliana Fuddy for the Fundraising team and Mardiyah Tarentino for the Media team.  Continuing Board Associates are Haris Wolfgang for the international SD work, Rohanna Muth in Media and Fundraising, and Miriam Brannan for Outreach.

We are so blessed to have such passionate and capable members joining us in our efforts.  And we have room for more if you’re so moved.  Expressing our latihan, through our humanity, is a wonderous gift for ourselves, our communities and our world.  It has the power to transform - one life, one community at a time.
