Notes from the Field #1:
An initial study of the medical lore and practices of extremely poor people in Chennai, India. In spite of the fact that they live in a modern country where the highest level of medical care is available, these people cannot access it.
From time to time SDIA published first-hand reports from Susila Dharma Projects as a series called Notes from the Field. The series has published:
#1 - Slum Medicines of Chennai: Indigenous Health Practices
#2 - The Key to Sustainable Development: Solutions from the Jungles of Kalimantan
#3 - Human Rights Education Program in Karnataka, India
#4 - Gender Study in Kingantoko and Surrounding Area, DR Congo (French and English)
To submit an article for consideration as a publication in the Notes from the Field series, please follow this format:
- The author should be a practitioner not a visitor to the project.
- The article should highlight what you have learned from your development practice that you feel would be of interest to other practitioners.
- The article should include the background on the project, the population you work with, the goals and a description of the specific activities concerned, outcomes and recommendations.
- A short biography about the author and contact information for the author and project.
- Between 4-6 high resolution photographs of the activities described in the article.
